New Playground Now Open at Dwyer Park in Little York
A brand new playground is officially open at Dwyer Memorial Park in Little York after a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday morning. The new playground, Cortland County says, represents a significant investment in community recreation and public safety.
The previous playground at the park was removed after the county said they conducted a comprehensive review of park facilities from the newly appointed County Safety Director, Jason DeRaiche. Reasons for the removal of the old playground were due to safety concerns and outdated equipment.
The compilation of this new playground at Dwyer Park also marked the first project completed by the newly formed Public Works Department of Cortland County. Last month, the county consolidated several departments into a Public Works Department to strengthen the delivery of essential services, Cortland County says.
The playground was purchased from WillyGoat of Birmingham Alabama, who won a bid from the county for the playground in the amount of $54,000.
