The New York Lottery announced yesterday that beginning on April 4th (next Tuesday), Mega Millions ticket purchases for a Mega Millions drawing held on the same day must be made by 10pm now.
Currently, Mega Million tickets may be sold up to 10:45pm on the evening of a drawing, with that drawing taking place at 11pm on Tuesdays and Fridays. The reasoning for the new time is to allow the New York Lottery to conduct closing procedures for each drawing.
The NY Lottery says the change is strictly operational and will have no effect on those looking to play Mega Millions.
The New York Mega Millions generated over $294 million dollars in total sales last year, with school districts receiving over $119 million dollars in Lottery Aid to Education Funds from the sales.
