During the City of Cortland Planning Commission meeting last night, a presentation was given for the redevelopment of the former Mullens Office Supply at 28 Main Street in the City of Cortland.
Alton Ainslie of Ainslie Design, presented to the commission a site plan and explanation of the development of the building. The building, which sits vacant currently, looks to have a complete overhaul of both the first and second floors.
The first floor will feature a new entrance way, windows, façade, a bar and serving area, 3 golf simulator stations, heat and serve kitchen, and an ADA compliant restroom. For the second floor, a 3 bedroom walk-up residential apartment will be done, with a separate entrance from the business below.
Overall the planning commission was impressed with the proposed renovation of the building. During the meeting the potential name of the business was revealed. The tenant of the building would be Chris Merkley, who is known for Rose Hall on Church Street. The name of the new business would be “Sun Dog.”
The signage was also revealed to be similar to the former Mullens signage (back-lit). Plans for the project still need to be discussed during the Historical Society meeting, slated for May 16th. Originally, the developer was to present plans for April’s Historical Society meeting, but could not due to a lack of quorum.
The planning commission did vote on a site plan that is contingent with approval from the Historic District Commission, the vote was unanimous. Plans for the building have been in the making since before the pandemic.
*Correction, original story reported Historical Society for approval of signage, the Historic District Commission is the correct commission. Alton Ainslie is from Ainslie Design, not Labella Associates.*
