A domestic dispute led to gunshots fired in the village of Groton early Saturday morning.

Police responded to a West Cortland Street residence.

Two next door neighbors had subdued 30-year-old Dustin Blake-Vasquez and detained him in an upstairs bedroom.

The pair had just gotten home from a trip, when they heard female screams for help coming from inside the residence. At that point, they immediately rushed in to help the victim.

Standing from the top of a stairwell overhead, Vasquez fired a single shot from an illegal sawed off shotgun towards the group. Nobody was hit or injured during the incident.

A short scuffle ensued and the neighbors were able to subdue Vasquez until police arrived.

  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3″ Degree;
  • Reckless Endangerment in the 1st Degree;
  • Menacing in the 2nd Degree;
  • Criminal Obstruction of Breathing; and
  • Harassment in the 2nd Degree.

He was arraigned virtually at the Tompkins County Public Safety Building and remanded without bail to reappear in the Town of Groton Court today (September 20) at 5:00 pm.
