NBT Bank is alerting residents to an ongoing texting scam that is targeting both customers and non-customers of NBT Bank.
NBT says the scammers are texting individuals pretending to be NBT and try to obtain account and online banking information. The text sent can appear to come from the bank, but NBT bank says it is not.

NBT Bank also states the bank will never make unsolicited calls or texts asking for personal information and will never text their customers asking them to enter online banking information via a click-thru link.
For those who have received a fraudulent text message, report it to the bank, copy the message and forward it to 7725 (SPAM). Forwarding it to this number will help your wireless provider identify and block similar messages.
It is also important to never reply to texts that have instructions such as “STOP” or “NO” as this will confirm to the scammer your phone number is active.
