National Work Zone Awareness Week goes until the 23rd. It is a week to raise awareness of work zone safety.
AAA has announced the organization is supporting the American Traffic Safety Services Association to raise awareness with this year’s theme being “You play a role in work zone safety. Work with us.”
In 2020, AAA reports 857 people were killed in a total of 774 fatall work zone crashes throughout the country. A majority of those who died in work zone crashes were not workers, but motorists and their passengers. In 2020, 117 workers died in work zones.
“Being broken down on the side of the road is more than an inconvenience, it is extremely dangerous,” said Mark Mika, Senior Business Advisor for AAA Western and Central New York.
