National Weather Service – Potential For Severe Storms Saturday
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Binghamton is warning residents of potentially severe storms for Saturday, August 31st. The two main threats for Saturday’s storms are damaging winds and heavy rainfall.
Currently, all of Cortland and Tompkins County are in the NWS “Slight Risk” level 2 scale. The Slight Risk assessment means there is a 15 to 29% chance for damaging winds within 25 miles of a point.

Scattered severe thunderstorms for Saturday will begin in the afternoon and continuing through the evening hours. Both strong winds and localized heavy rains are the primary threat as the NWS says a weak cold front moves from west to east.
