National Weather Service – Flash Flooding Greatest Risk For Tuesday

So far, the forecast doesn’t show severe storms for today that Cortland County has seen throughout the month of July. However, the greatest potential cause of concern for today, Tuesday, July 30th, will be heavy downpours with localized flash flooding.

The National Weather Service in Binghamton (NWS) says rain showers and storms are expected to move through the area beginning this afternoon and continue into the night. The primary concern for today are storms that “sit” over an area for a long enough time; some of these storms may cause heavy downpours which can cause flash flooding.

Most drownings occur during flash flooding; never walk through flowing water as it only takes six inches of moving water to knock you over. Always remember the phrase “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”
