National Grid Recognized For Commitment in Tree Management
National Grid has announced that for the 26th consecutive year, they have been named a 2025 Tree line USA utility by the Arbor Day Foundation. The recognition from the foundation comes from National Grids commitment in urban tree management in their service areas in New York and Massachusetts. The company says they are the most-awarded energy delivery company in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
“At National Grid, we take a responsible, sustainable approach to lessening the impact trees have on our ability to deliver uninterrupted service to our customers,” said Matt Barnett, National Grid Chief Operating Officer for Electric. “Trees are important parts of our customers’ lives and the communities we serve, which is why we set such a high standard for our forestry practices. It is an honor to be recognized once again for our company’s dedication to smart, careful tree management.”
According to National Grid, Tree Line USA is a partnership between the Arbor Day Foundation and the National Association of State Foresters. Both public and private utility companies are recognized for their use of best practices that protect and cultivate urban tree canopies.
“Our customers benefit from tree-trimming programs through increased service reliability and fewer potential outages. Properly maintained trees have healthier root systems, less structural weakness, and ultimately result in fewer downed lines during storms. More information on the importance of managing trees to ensure safety and deliver reliable energy is available on the National Grid’s website.” National Grid says.
National Grid was able to gain the recognition from Tree Line USA by meeting the five core standards. Those standards included following the industry standard of tree car, providing yearly training for best tree care practices, sponsoring tree plating and public education programs, maintaining a tree-based energy conservation program, and lastly, participating in Arbor Day celebrations.
