Both the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) have announced that a national Emergency Alert System (EAS) test will take place tomorrow, October 4th at 2:20pm.
The test will be done via the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) with alerts going through all Tv, Radio, and Cell Phones in the country. The reason for the test is to ensure the system in place continues to be effective in the event of an emergency, especially those on a national level.
A backup date of October 11th is planned in the event of widespread severe weather or any other type of significant event.
