National Average Gas Prices Fall As Oil Prices Remain Stagnant
One year ago, the national average gas price was $3.59 per gallon. Today, that average price is $3.50, representing a tiny but consistent trend across the nation.
For New York, the average sits at $3.62 per gallon, whereas a year ago, that number was $3.69. AAA of Western and Central New York reports drops of one cent in Batavia, Buffalo, Elmira, Rochester, Rome, and Syracuse compared to last Monday. In Watertown, gas is down two cents, but Ithaca has seen no change. Diesel fuel has also slightly fallen, sitting at $3.83 per gallon, down three cents from last Monday for the national average.
The price of oil remains the same as of Monday, sitting around the low $80s per barrel. Data from the Energy Information Administration indicates a drop in demand for fuel around the peak summer driving season coinciding with the gasoline supply being low for the time of year. This can be attributed to the Gulf Coast’s recovery from Hurricane Beryl.
To save money on gas this summer, AAA advises you to map your routes before going on a trip and avoiding peak traffic times such as rush hour. You can also use cruise control for a boost in fuel economy and combine your errands into a single trip. Keeping your tire pressure at the recommended level also helps with fuel economy whilst avoiding the ruination of your tires.
