Multiple Fire Departments Respond to Structure Fire in Cincinnatus

Just before 10am on Friday, January 26th, a Cortland County Highway Department employee called into Cortland County 9-1-1 to report of a structure fire on top of the hill on McFarlane Road in Cincinnatus.


Fire Departments from Cincinnatus, Willet, McGraw, and Cortlandville were all dispatched to the scene. Units on route confirmed seeing heavy smoke coming from the area. Upon arrival, it was confirmed that there was a working structure fire.

Due to the extent of the fire, firefighters attacked the flames from the exterior of the building. Firefighters got the brunt of the fire knocked down around 10:35am. While fighting the fire, additional departments from Smithville and South Otselic were dispatched to standby at stations.

No firefighters were injured during the fire and the cause of the fire is under investigation. Cincinnatus fire requested a bulldozer from the county to assist with knocking down possible hot spots and avoid a rekindling.
