A call came into the Cuyler Fire Department around 5 in the morning on Wednesday, January 18th for a reported structure fire on East Keeney Road Extension.
Upon arrival, Cuyler Firefighters found an active structure fire at a residence and called in a 2nd Alarm to bring in additional manpower to the scene. Truxton, Cincinnatus, Homer, DeRuyter, Fabius, Pompey Hill, and Delphi Falls Fire Departments responded to assist the Cuyler Fire Department.
Firefighters fought the fire that spread up a stairwell into the attic space and ceiling of the residence. Due to multiple additions and walls, knocking down the fire proved to be a challenge for firefighters. The fire was eventually knocked down and all departments returned to service by 11am.
The Cortland County Sheriff and State Fire also responded and assisted on scene. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
