Around 12 in the morning on Saturday, February 17th, the Virgil Fire Department responded to a reported chimney fire at a residence on Daisy Hollow Road. Virgil Fire says the call also issued an automatic mutual aid from Harford, Dryden, and Cortlandville Fire Departments.

As firefighters arrived fire could be seen coming from the top of the chimney at the residence with a light smoke condition inside the building. Virgil Fire says firefighters began to check the interior of the residence in case the fire had spread from the chimney and worked to gain access to the roof to the top of the chimney.

A dry chemical was used to extinguish the fire and the chimney was then swept. Dryden Fire provided assistance with monitoring interior conditions with a thermal imaging camera to ensure the fire did not spread. Harford Fire provided manpower at the scene and a roof ladder for access with Cortlandville Fire responding with their FAST team.

Virgil Fire says the occupants of the residence were alerted of the smoke condition and chimney fire due to working smoke detectors. All mutual aid was cleared from the scene by 1:15 in the morning.

No injuries were reported and damage was said to be contained to the chimney components. Additional assistance was provided by Cortland County 9-1-1, Dryden Ambulance, and Cortland County Highway.
