On Monday, December 26th, around 4:45 pm, Cortlandville Fire Department was dispatched to a reported garage fire located on Ridge Rd. in the Town of Cortlandville. The fire call alerted McGraw and Homer Fire Departments to be dispatched as well.
Upon arrival, Cortlandville Fire Chiefs found a heavy fire from a garage attached to the house expanding into the house. A second alarm call was then transmitted to bring additional manpower and resources to the scene.
Firefighters began to knock down the flames and were able to contain the fire to two rooms within the house. The fire was under control by firefighters within 45 minutes.
The house sustained heavy damage from fire, heat, and smoke. No injuries were reported of occupants in the house or by firefighters. Unfortunately, several animals died in the fire.
The occupants of the house are being aided by the Red Cross currently. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Assisting the Cortlandville Fire Department was Homer, McGraw, Cincinnatus, Truxton and Marathon Fire Departments, Cortland County Sheriff, Cortland County Department of Emergency Response, TLC Ambulance, Cortlandville Highway Dept., NYS Office of Fire Protection and Control.
McLean, Groton, and Killawog Fire Departments provided standby coverage of Cortlandville while firefighters were on scene. The scene was cleared by 7:20 pm that evening.
