Around 4 in the morning on Tuesday, September 16th, Cortlandville, Homer, and McGraw Fire Departments were dispatched to a reported structure fire on McGraw-North Road in the Town of Cortlandville. Also responding to the scene was the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, who confirmed smoke in the area and a fully-involved working fire when arriving on scene.

A second-alarm was dispatched to bring in additional resources to the scene, Cortlandville Fire says. Cortlandville Fire says firefighting efforts were complicated by low water pressure in the municipal water system, which then required the use of tanker operations.

Initial reports to firefighters were that the occupants were still inside. Firefighters attempted an interior search, but had to evacuate due to heavy fire conditions. Cortlandville Fire says fortunately there were no injuries reported.

Firefighters remained on scene for several hours for extensive overhaul. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and is being investigated by State Fire.

Additional fire departments assisting Cortlandville Fire on scene included: Marathon, Cincinnatus, Truxton, and Killawog Fire Departments. Cortland County Department of Emergency Response and Communications, Cortlandville Codes, TLC Ambulance, and National Grid also provided assistance.

Standby coverage was provided by McLean and Groton Fire Departments for Cortlandville while their firefighters were on scene.
