Around 3pm Tuesday, April 11th, the Truxton Fire Department was dispatched to Maybury Road for a reported brush fire by DEC Police.
The fire appeared to be growing at a considerable rate, Truxton units requested additional tankers and off-road units to the scene. McGraw, Cuyler, and Homer Fire Departments were requested for mutual aid.
Firefighters worked quickly to contain and put out the fire before it could spread further. The fire was extinguished and hot spots were tackled about 50 minutes from the initial time of the call.
No injuries were reported during the brush fire. Due to the dry conditions and gusty winds, the fire was able to develop quickly in a matter of minutes.
This is the fifth reported brush fire in two days for Cortland County.
