Just before 5:30 in the evening on Friday, October 3rd, Tully Fire says they were dispatched to a reported outdoor fire in the area of Long & Hollenbeck Road. According to the fire department, a caller informed emergency dispatch of seeing white smoke in the area.

Tully Fire, along with the New York State Environmental Conservation Officers, responded to the area where they found several large piles of brush on fire and were unattended. Tully Fire says additional resources were required due to the location of the fires. Mutual aid from Otisco and Apulia Fire Departments responded to the scene.

Tully Fire says firefighters remained on scene for several hours to ensure the fires were fully extinguished.

A temporary burn-ban is in place until October 15th for the entire state. The burn ban prohibits the starting of outdoor fires for purposes of brush and debris disposal, uncontained fires, including campfires, and open fires used for cooking. According to the Governor’s Office, backyard fire pits containing campfires less than 3 feet in height and 4 feet in length, width or diameter are allowed and small, contained cooking fires.
