Around 12:15 in the morning, Thursday, a call came in of a reported structure fire on Route 215 in the Town of Cortlandville.

Cortlandville and Homer Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene after the call came in. A Cortland County Sheriff’s Officer was the first to arrive on scene to confirm heavy smoke and fire coming from the residence. An all hands call was then issued.

Route 215 was shut down between Bennie Road and Gallagher Road as emergency crews worked to extinguish the fire. As fire crews continued to fight the flames a second alarm was issued by Cortlandville Command.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to only two rooms within the residence and were able to have the fire knocked out within 30 minutes of the initial call. The residence sustained heavy damage towards the front of the building.

Initial reports show the cause of the fire to be accidental. All units were cleared around 2am.

Assisting the Cortlandville Fire Department was Homer, Virgil, McGraw, McLean, and Dryden Fire Departments, Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, TLC Ambulance, and NYSDOT. Groton and Marathon Fire provided standby coverage in Cortlandville’s district.
