There were multiple arrests at Wal-Mart by officers from the Cortland County Sheriff over the past few days with charges ranging from Petit Larceny to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Officers first responded to Walmart on Saturday, July 1st around 5pm for a larceny complaint by employees of the store. The investigation by officers found 38 year old Ashley L. Durbin of Cortland, had failed to render a payment for merchandise before she left the store. As Durbin was committing the crime, she was in the presence of two minors.
Durbin was arrested and charged with Petit Larceny, and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, all Misdemeanors. She was processed and released on her own recognizance with appearance tickets.
Two days later, July 3, officers again responded to Walmart around 5pm for a reported larceny. The investigation found 27 year old Samantha M. Townsend of Ithaca, stole merchandise from the store.
As Townsend was being arrested, officers found her to be in possession of an unspecified controlled substance. She was charged with Petit Larceny, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Criminal use of Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd, all Misdemeanors.
She was processed and later released on appearance tickets.
