M&T Bank Cites Evolving Needs and Banking Habits As Reason For Closing Cortland Branch on Route 222

Customers of M&T Bank will now have to leave the county if they need to visit the nearest branch. The news comes after M&T Bank closed their only branch in Cortland County at 1091 Route 222 in Cortland back on June 12th. The nearest branch now for customers is in Ithaca on North Triphammer Road.

M&T Bank told X101 News the reasoning for the closure was in part of the bank’s regular review of their branch network ensuring locations meet their customers’ evolving needs and banking habits. The Cortland branch was not the only M&T Bank in the area to close recently. M&T also closed their Norwich branch at 118 State Highway 320.

SVP for Corporate Communications for Upstate & Western New York Regions for M&T Bank, Thea Pecht, told X101 News all impacted employees were offered position at nearby branch locations or in other local bank operations.
