Motorcyclist Taken to Upstate After Vehicle Fails to Yield – Driver Charged With DWAI
Around 3:20 in the afternoon last Thursday, July 17th, the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to the 100 block of Freeville Road (Route 38) in the Town of Dryden for a motor vehicle crash with injuries. The crash was reported to involve a car and a motorcycle. Also responding to the scene was Dryden Fire and Ambulance, Dryden Police, and State Police.
As officers with the Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene, the operator of the motorcycle was being treated by Dryden Ambulance, who then transported them to Upstate University Hospital. The Sheriff’s Office says the motorcyclist is in stable condition at this time.
An investigation into the cause of the crash found the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Route 38 when a vehicle, driven by 50 year old Jason Lott of Binghamton, was traveling westbound and was attempting to turn onto Poets Landing. The Sheriff’s Office says Lotts failed to yield to the motorcyclist traveling eastbound on Route 38.
Officers eventually arrested and charged Lotts on Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs at the conclusion of their investigation. He was processed and later released on an appearance ticket to a sober third party. Lotts is due in Dryden Town Court next month. Route 38 was briefly closed while emergency crews were on scene.
