Yesterday afternoon around 1:20, a traffic stop was attempted by an officer from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office on a motorcycle on Route 281 in Cortlandville for a traffic violation.
The operator of the motorcycle, later identified as 39 year old Nicholas G. Stone of Cortland, refused to comply with the office and continued to flee from them on his motorcycle. As he fled, Stone committed several additional traffic violations.
Stone eventually abandoned the motorcycle on a vacant lot near the intersection of Route 281 and Mclean road and continued to flee on foot from officers. Officers were able to catch up to him and take him into custody moments later.
He was arrested and charged with Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in the 3rd, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd, Reckless Driving, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operator in the 3rd, all Misdemeanors. He also faces 15 traffic violations.
Stone was transported to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office and was issued several citations. He is due to appear in Cortlandville Town Court early next month.
