Motorcycle Crash in Homer Sends Two to Hospital – Motorcyclist Was Traveling at High Rate of Speed, Passing Illegally

Around 9:13 pm on Friday, July 12th, first responders were dispatched to a car vs. motorcycle crash on South Main Street in the Village of Homer, just north of Copeland Ave. The crash resulted in South Main Street being temporarily closed between Copeland and Albany Street within the village.

The operator of the motorcycle, a 31 year old male whose identity has not been released yet, was taken via TLC Ambulance to Upstate University Hospital. He is expected to survive. The operator of the vehicle, a 19 year old woman, was also transported to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center for minor injuries.

An investigation into the cause of the crash, and witness reports, show the male operator of the motorcycle was traveling northbound on Homer Ave to South Main Street at a high rate of speed. Witnesses also said the motorcyclist was passing vehicles on both the left and right side of the road.

The driver of the vehicle was also traveling northbound on South Main and was making a left turn into a driveway when the motorcyclist, who was then passing illegally on the left, hit the drivers side of the vehicle.

Homer Police say the investigation remains ongoing at this time. Assisting Homer Police was the Homer Fire Department, TLC Ambulance, Cortland County Sheriff, and New York State Police.
