A woman from Enfield was arrested by New York State Police early Tuesday following an argument at a home on Mecklenburg Road.
Troopers report that Tanona Irwin, 38, was arrested for criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation and endangering the welfare of a child.
A call reporting a dispute to 911 sent troopers to the home at about 1:15 am.
The police investigation determined that Irwin had grabbed the neck of a 12-year old and choked the child.
Irwin was arraigned in the adjoining Town of Newfield court and sent to the Tompkins County jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 property bond.
An order of protection was issued against her by the court.
Irwin’s next court date in the Town of Enfield is on May 2.
Troopers say the child had no injuries and was staying with family.
