The latest CDC data shows that figure to be 68.6% of state residents 18 and older.

Once that reaches 70-percent, guidance on capacity restrictions, social distancing, cleaning, health screening and contact tracing will become optional for most commercial settings.

This includes:

  • Retail
  • Food Services
  • Offices
  • Gyms and Fitness Centers
  • Amusement and Family Entertainment
  • Hair Salons
  • Barber Shops
  • Personal Care Services

There are several exempt industries that will remain subject to existing mask and social distancing protocols:

  • Large-Scale Event Venues
  • Schools
  • Public Transit
  • Homeless Shelters
  • Correctional Facilities
  • Nursing Homes
  • Health Care Settings

Cuomo also announced that school districts can now choose to lift the requirement of students to wear masks outdoors.

However, guidance on mask use indoors remains in place.

The governor says the state also aligns with CDC recommendations on summer camps, where even unvaccinated students are not currently required to wear masks outdoors
