Peak season for harmful algal blooms is yet to come and more than 60 blooms have already been reported in water bodies large and small, from Long Island to Western New York.
Four of those bodies of water are nearby Finger Lakes: Canandaigua, Honeoye, Keuka and Otisco.
So far, none have been located in Skaneateles Lake. However, this is still very much a threat, as last year HABs turned up in each of the 11 Finger Lakes.
More are expected to join the list soon, as the DEC has another growing list of “suspected” blooms in additional water bodies including Cayuga Lake.
