More than 300 Small Animals Rescued in Tompkins County

Animal Control Officers with the Tompkins County SPCA say they found more than 300 rats, mice, guinea pigs and gerbils over the weekend, which were apparently dumped along Michigan Hollow Road in Danby and on Caswell Road in Dryden.

The animals were found in separate spots, but officials say the incidents are likely related.

Investigators believe they were most likely abandoned sometime late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.

In all, 213 rats, mice, guinea pigs and gerbils were rescued.

According to the Tompkins County SPCA’s Facebook page, they’ve now have found homes or rescues for most of the animals.

If you would like to donate to their care visit, where they have a special fund set up.

For supply donations, you can purchase things like Guinea Pig food, Rat food, Mice food, Gerbil food, Timothy Hay, shredded paper, newspapers and cleaning supplies.

Those can be dropped off or shipped to the SPCA at 1640 Hanshaw Road, Ithaca, New York 14850.
