Moravia Woman Accused of Driving Drunk in Homer With Stolen Car

A Moravia woman is facing a felony DWI and other charges after taking a car and driving drunk.

Homer Village Police stopped a driver for speeding early Sunday morning. During the stop the driver, 44-year-old Christine Townsend of 6499 Curtin Road, Moravia was found to driving drunk and operating without a license.

Further investigation revealed that Townsend had taken a vehicle without permission. Police say the owners were on vacation and did not give Townsend permission to use the vehicle.

Townsend was charged with a felony count of DWI due to a prior drunk driving conviction. She was also charged with a felony count of aggravated unlicensed operation and a misdemeanor charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Townsend was also ticketed for speeding, having an open alcoholic container in the car and refusing to take a breath test.

Townsend was arraigned in the Town of Cortlandville Court and sent to the Cortland County Jail in lieu of $5,000.00 cash or $10,000.00 bond.
