Moravia Man Arrested After Domestic Violence Incident – Officers Talk Suspect Off Roof

Back on Monday, October 21st around 9:30 in the morning, deputies with the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic violence incident taking place in the Village of Moravia. As deputies arrived, they found a man on the roof of the house. The man was identified as 34 year old Everett W. Thompson III of Moravia.

Deputies were able to talk Thompson off of the roof peacefully. During the investigation and interviews with the residents of the house, it was found that a female had a domestic relationship with Thompson and there was also an “extensive history” of domestic violence between the female and Thompson. There was also an Order of Protection in place protecting the female from Thompson.

Further investigation also found Thompson was on probation from a previous arrest. The Sheriff’s Office says they were also told his erratic behavior during the incident was due to him possibly being under the influence of drugs. Deputies also learned Thompson entered the garage area of the residence and subsequently attempted to break down a door to a room by using a hatchet.

Thompson was arrested and charged with Aggravated Family Offense, a Felony, Criminal Mischief in the 4th, and Criminal Contempt in the 2nd, both Misdemeanors. He was transported to the Public Safety Building and then to the Cayuga County Jail where he was arraigned and remanded on no bail.
