New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli has announced that the state tax collections from mobile sports betting continue to increase. Sports betting totaled $727.4 million dollars in the State’s Fiscal Year 2022-2023.

With the increase in mobile sports betting though, DiNapoli’s Office has said the NYS Gaming Commission has seen a 26% increase in problem gambling-related calls to the Office of Addiction Services and Supports from 2021 to 2022.

“Gaming has significantly expanded in the state in the last several years,” DiNapoli said. “With the ease and 24/7 availability of mobile betting apps, problem gambling and addiction are poised to increase. More attention should be devoted to understanding the implications of mobile sports betting, particularly on young New Yorkers.”

Due to the increase in problem gambling, OASAS has said spending on problem gambling services has increased to over $9.7 million dollars. If you have a gambling problem, you may reach out to the OASAS hotline at 1-877-8-HOPENY (467369).
