Minor Facing Several Charges Following Police Pursuit Saturday Night in Tompkins County
State Police say a 17-year old minor is facing several misdemeanor charges following a police pursuit Saturday night in the Town of Dryden. Troopers along with Deputies from the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a reported disturbance at the Ellis Hollow Community Center on Genung Road in Dryden around 11pm Saturday, September 20th. Tompkins County Sheriff Derek Osborne told X101 News law enforcement was dispatched to disperse an underage party where a possible harassment took place from a minor physical altercation that took place during the party.
While on scene and investigating the reported disturbance, State Police say a 17-year old male had left the area in an Audi A4. The 17-year old had failed to obey law enforcement commands and sped off, State Police say. A Trooper activated his emergency lights and attempted to stop the Audi, but the 17-year old continued to flee.
While fleeing, the driver then committed numerous vehicle and traffic infractions and endangered the motoring public, State Police say. The 17-year old male would eventually stop in a driveway on Snyder Hill Road where State Police engaged the driver, who they say continued to fail to comply with orders. He would also resist arrest when taken into custody by State Police and the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office.
The 17-year old was transported to the State Police Barracks at Ithaca for processing. He is facing charges of Reckless Driving, Unlawful Fleeing of a Motor Vehicle, and Resisting Arrest, all Misdemeanors. State Police say he was checked out by EMS while at the Barracks and was later issued a Family Court Appearance Ticket before being turned over to a parent.
Sheriff Osborne says the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office is still in the preliminary stages of their investigation and could not provide information if charges will be pursued. No arrests were made by the Sheriff’s Office.
