Mega Millions Jackpot Last Week Generated Nearly $56 Million For NY Schools & Retailers

The Mega Millions Jackpot, which was won by one lucky player in California, still brought in millions of dollars for local schools and lottery retailers throughout the State of New York. The New York State Gaming Commission says the jackpot ended up bringing a total of $55.8 million from ticket sales and commissions for public schools and lottery retailers.

“New York’s schools and small businesses always win, even if the lottery jackpot is hit elsewhere,” said New York State Gaming Commission Chair Brian O’Dwyer. “The New York Lottery generates significant revenue for public education and lottery retailers statewide, and we are proud to deliver on that mission.”

The recent winning jackpot began building back in September until its December 27th drawing of $1.22 billion dollars. Mega Million ticket sales in that timeframe for the state brought in $47.6 million for public schools and another $8.2 million for lottery retailers.
