Matt Brooks: [00:00:00] Good morning I’m Matt Brooks on X101 Always Classic in for another edition of Meet Cortland County. Joining me in the studio this morning, well, it’s Todd Stone Fair Board President of the Cortland County Junior Fair. Now, Cortland County Junior Fair is less than a week away coming up July 8th through the 12th now. Todd, first off, thank you for joining me this morning.Â
Todd Stone: Thank you for having me, Matt.Â
Matt Brooks: And what for, for the Cortland County Junior Fair this year, that means it’s been over 70 years of the fair. What’s planned for this year?Â
Todd Stone: Um, we got some new big events this year, we have touch a truck and it’s gonna be farm equipment for the kids to, you know, touch, feel, climb on hopefully, safely.
And then we also have, a hands-on exhibit for our Ag. awareness tent, and that’s gonna be wool spinning, and so it’s gonna be a hands-on learn how they did it from,Â
Matt Brooks: Oh yeah. Wow. That’s cool.Â
Todd Stone: Back in the 1800s, and.Â
Matt Brooks: It’s always, it’s always really cool with this fair ’cause you can really get up close and personal and like, I mean, I. We were saying before we got on air, it’s like, yeah, you see this farming equipment through the season is if you’re in a car, you’ve probably seen a tractor around here rolling around. You might have been stuck one behind one in traffic, but this is really opportunity to get up close and personal. See these things that really help make Central New York, Central New York.Â
Todd Stone: They are part of Central New York. They part of the, community for hundreds of years. So.Â
Matt Brooks: Yeah, hundreds of years. And it, another cool thing about the, I mean, it, it’s, it’s gonna be a whole lot of fun. That’s thing, there’s a lot of attractions, a lot of stuff that is for entertainment and enjoyment at the Cortland County Junior Fair, but. Like we were saying, um, it’s really an opportunity for getting kids to experience with their own eyes and maybe even climb on some things hands and ears. The about agriculture.
Can you elaborate on the, that mission statement for the Cortland County Junior Fair?Â
Todd Stone: Yeah. Our, the Cortland County Junior Fair. Our big thing is get the people to see what agriculture is about. You have the animals in the barns where you can, they walk through. 90% of the kids will love, you know, you touch, you feel, and it’s always that group we love to,Â
Matt Brooks: Yeah.
Todd Stone: Have in the, you know, through the building so that they can see what agriculture really is.Â
Matt Brooks: Yeah, this is a, this is a place that you can really, uh, get your hands dirty and like,Â
Todd Stone: Yeah.Â
Matt Brooks: Really experience it because, I mean, really with agriculture, there’s no other way. I mean, yeah, you can learn it from a textbook, but it’s just, it’s just something else. Seeing it in action.Â
Todd Stone: Right, exactly. And I mean, there’s animals from chickens, rabbits, to cows, calves, pigs, you name it, it’s there.Â
Matt Brooks: Wow. No, and it’s, and you have plenty of time to check it out too. This isn’t just a one day event. It’s July 8th through the 12th, and uh, it’s going on at the fairgrounds?Â
Todd Stone: Yep. Down to the fairgrounds, um, on Fairgrounds Drive. And, um, this year again, we also have our dairy called birthing center Friday and Saturday. So there’s a chance to catch a live birth both of those days.Â
Matt Brooks: So it is gonna be a whole lot of stuff to do, a whole lot of things to see. And again, July 8th through the 12th, um, I, I see the itinerary, it’s a bit long to get. Through everything on the list. So Todd, um, as we wrap up, um, if people wanna see everything that’s going on so they can make a, a day out of it and plan on when they wanna hit the fair, where should people go?Â
Todd Stone: Okay. They can go to our Facebook page, which is Cortland County Junior Fair, or we have a webpage that is CortlandFair.com.
Matt Brooks: Yeah, CortlandFair.com. Okay. And, and everything’s right there. Yeah. And it’s no, again, it’s amazing. I mean, over 70 years, Cortland County Junior Fair has been doing his thing, bringing agriculture in the eyes of our future generations. So, Todd, thank you for, for holding onto the torch and, uh.Â
Todd Stone: Yeah, I mean, we do our best and just love educating the community.
Matt Brooks: All right. And again, July 8th through the 12th, Cortland County Fairgrounds, Cortland County Junior Fair, CortlandFair.com‘s, their website. We can also find ’em on Facebook. Todd, thank you for joining me this morning.Â
