John Harrison: [00:00:00] Good morning everyone. John Harrison in the Cayuga Health System sponsored studios for another edition of me, Cortland County. And joining me today is Jackie Burke here to talk about the fourth annual Halloween family fun event. Jackie, thanks so much for joining me.
Jackie Burke: Thanks for having me.
John Harrison: Oh, of course. It’s a delight having you in the studio.
And of course we’re talking about the, fourth annual Halloween family fun event coming up at the end of the month, October 26th, fourth time doing it, and every single year it just gets bigger and better. You wanna talk a little bit about what people can expect this year?
Jackie Burke: Oh, we’ve got lots of surprises this year and with the support of many of the community organizations, we’ve been able to add more, more exciting things for the kids to enjoy and families to create memories.
We partner every year with the 1890 house, so that we have this awesome venue Yeah. Where we can take advantage of the rooms in the castle. And now we’ve got the carriage house on top of. The castle to explore.
John Harrison: Yeah. And that’s amazing. Just having that, [00:01:00] you know, even if removed from, the theme of the event, right?
Just having that space on that, like kind of Halloween themed with the kids, that’s just gotta be such an exciting thing to, to go and explore it in, in this, you know, new setting. But. We’ve also got a theme last year, you had a great theme. This year we’re taking it to Neverland, right? We’re going with, we’re going on Neverland.
Jackie Burke: The 1890 house is already, almost set in the Neverland theme. Wow. We do have a couple other exciting, characters that, that are not part of Netherland, but for the majority of the castle, you’re gonna find you’re transported back in time.
John Harrison: Yeah. Uh, f first it’s first star from midnight, right? Andre On till Netherland.
Is that what they say? It’s, but I am, I am looking forward to it. It’s gonna be so much fun. What are some of the like just fun activities and events, that the kids are gonna have to look forward to?
Jackie Burke: Well first when they enter the castle, they’re gonna have some [00:02:00] wonderful photo opportunities with some very well known fun characters.
They get to venture into a shipwreck, which is going to be pretty cool. And there’s also pirate tattoos. There’s going to be pirates throughout the entire castle that we’re gonna, challenge every single, child that comes, there’s. There’s also on the third floor, an entire set where you’re gonna be in Captain Hook’s ship.
Wow. And there may be a plank to walk. There may be some jewels that every, every child can take home. There’s, there’s lots of interactive things that, we have in store this year.
John Harrison: Yeah. That’s really exciting. And one of the exciting things you have in store with that is I know that you are gonna be portraying a character.
Is that correct?
Jackie Burke: Oh, yeah.
John Harrison: Are we allowed to talk about that or is that a little bit more of a surprise?
Jackie Burke: Think that one’s gonna be a big surprise. Something very [00:03:00] unexpected, but something extremely fun that the kids are gonna really love.
John Harrison: Well, folks, you, you heard it here. If you wanna see Jackie, in costume portraying some sort of character, a little bit of a surprise,
you
Jackie Burke: have to be there.
John Harrison: That’s coming up October 26th, noon to three. At the 1890 house. It’s the fourth annual Halloween family fun event. Jackie, anything else you wanna mention, you wanna add?
Jackie Burke: Well, I, I would like to thank the sponsors that have made this possible with, of course, with without the sponsors.
We wouldn’t be able to put on this type of production this year. There’s more activities that we’ll also have in the carriage house for the kids. But wanna put a big shout out to the Cortland Community Service Club. The JM Murray Center, Benson Davis Insurance and Eve’s Broadcasting. Hollenbeck Cider Mill Leonard’s.
Hobby Supplies. The Cortland Repertory Theater has been incredibly generous in loaning us all kinds of theater props. Andrew’s Farms and Bernard’s custom logo. [00:04:00] We couldn’t do it without you guys. Thank you.
John Harrison: Yeah. And, and it’s, it’s so rewarding, you know, as Eve’s broadcast, and you mentioned us being able to be a part of this and just see such a great, experience brought to the kids.
I know before we were recording, we were kind of chatting about, some of our own memories, and especially with, with Peter Pan, it’s such a timeless story, that kids are gonna be able to, to go make their own memories and then in. 20, 30 years when you know, now we’re at the 34th annual Halloween family fun event.
They’re gonna bring their own kids to make their own memories, and it’s gonna be great.
Jackie Burke: It’s gonna be wonderful. And, and the proceeds from this event go to Kiwanis is continuing. A mission to serve the kids in Cortland County, and the biggest one coming up is the Kiwanis community playground that will be breaking ground with, this spring.
But all of the proceeds go back into the community that support any kind of program for children.
John Harrison: Yeah. And that’s, that’s amazing. [00:05:00] That’s such a, an amazing cause. Well, Jackie, thanks so much for, for joining me for another edition of me Cortland County. Any last words, any last thoughts? Get it out there to the community.
This is your, your time to shine. You’re in the spotlight.
Jackie Burke: Well, all I can say is we have over 40 volunteers that will be in costume at the 1890 House Museum. Ready to have fun. So please come out October 26th from noon to three. You’ll have a great time.
John Harrison: Well, folks, we expect to see you there at the fourth annual Halloween Family Fun Event at the 1890 House.
Saturday, October 26th, the noon to three, and for another edition of me, Cortland County. This has been John Harrison on X 1 0 1.
