On Sunday a serious accident occurred around 1pm on Route 281 in the Town of Preble. 51 year old George D. Santerra was driving his 1929 Ford southbound when he experienced a mechanical issue (reportedly a tire blow out).

His vehicle left the roadway and then struck an embankment causing Santerra to be ejected from the vehicle.

Emergency personnel from the Cortland County Sheriff’s office, New York State Police, Preble Fire Department, and TLC Ambulance responded to the scene immediately.

A life Net helicopter was called to the scene and transported Santerra to University Hospital for serious, non-life threatening injuries from the crash.

As of today (July 21) he remains at University Hospital in serious, but stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
