McGraw Woman Charged With Welfare Fraud

An investigation by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office and the Cortland County Department of Social Services (DSS) found 49 year old Heidi Bement of McGraw, had not only failed to provide required income information to DSS, but also filed fraudulent paperwork concerning her household income.

The fraudulent paperwork led Bement to receive benefits she was not entitled to in the months of February and March of this year, the Sheriff’s Office said in a release. She was arrested and charged on August 9th for Offering a False Instrument in the 1st, a Felony, Petit Larceny, and Welfare Fraud in the 5th, both Misdemeanors.

Bement was processed and released on an appearance ticket. She is due in Cortland City Court later this month.
