McGrath Announces Campaign For County DA – Challenges Incumbent Perfetti

On Sunday, April 7th, Elizabeth McGrath announced her candidacy for Cortland County District Attorney. McGrath will be on the Democratic and Working Families Party ticket on Election Day in November.

In a release, McGrath says she has 13 years of experience as a prosecutor; working five years with the Bronx County DA’s Office before she came back to the Cortland area to join as a prosecutor for the County DA’s Office. McGrath has worked under Mark Suben and current DA, Patrick Perfetti.

Working as a prosecutor in the county, McGrath worked with the Child Advocacy Center with a focus on fighting child abuse and supporting victims. She was responsible for the training and supervising legal staff. McGrath left the Cortland County DA’s Office towards the end of 2020.

Since leaving the DA’s Office, she has worked as the Senior Attorney at Citizens Concerned for Children. Her duties included representing children in abuse and neglect cases during custody battles. She currently serves on the Village of Homer Board of Trustees, supervising the Homer Recreation Department.

“McGrath has more experience prosecuting violent crimes than any other attorney working in Cortland. This, combined with her administrative capability and ability to work well with local law enforcement and community agencies, makes her the best candidate for the role of District Attorney.”

McGrath will face Republican Incumbent, Patrick Perfetti, who took office as the Cortland County District Attorney in 2017.
