City of Cortland Mayor Scott Steve recently joined us and previewed some of the topics he’ll include in his State of the City speech expected later this week.
We asked him what the top priorities are for him with the City of Cortland. At the top was the finance department followed by the housing stock.
“Getting the finance in rein is the most important part because if that keeps getting out of control then that’s a concern. The housing stock and bringing in and making the community stronger, cleaner and better is really what’s going to feed the finances to help everything else.”
Steve went on to say to change the dynamics of what downtown looks like, what businesses are down there you change the economic factor and it will naturally happen.
He also provided a quick update on the downtown infrastructure/paving project saying NYSEG is currently working to finish their portion but the city’s bids for construction have gone out two weeks ago.
The city has just gotten those back and the bid has yet to be awarded as they’re being reviewed.
Mayor Steve does tell us the project is currently behind schedule and is behind $1.5 million to do the project.
“Whereas you’d like to think and sit back and say really can we afford to do this project, kind of forced to go ahead and do it because technically the work has already started.”
Mayor Scott Steve tells us we can expect his State of the City Speech later this week. We’ll have more information before it happens with full coverage.
And Scott Steve will be joining us on this Saturday’s Meet Cortland program at 9 am.
