The Marathon Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps (MAVAC) was awarded recently $25,000 dollars from the Lipinski Rural Initiatives program via Farm Credit East.

The funds from the award will be used towards MAVAC’s ambulance station. The award is aimed to recognize innovative and transformative efforts to revitalize rural communities in the Northeast. MAVAC was one of two to receive an award totaling $25,000 dollars.

The award is named after former Farm Credit East CEO Bill Lipinski, who advocated for rural communities. As CEO, Lipinski saw the ups and downs of the economy and the importance of the health of rural communities and worked to have Farm Credit East do more to combat disparity among rural communities. After his retirement, the Board of Directors established the Lipinski Rural Initiatives Award in his honor.
