Marathon Woman Charged With Welfare Fraud

An investigation conducted by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office and the Cortland County Department of Social Services found that 48 year old Lisa M. McKnight of Marathon, had failed to provide required income information to DSS and filed fraudulent paperwork concerning her employment and income.

McKnight reported the fraudulent information between August and October of this year. With this, she obtained benefits she was not entitled to in excess of $1,000.

She was arrested and charged with Welfare Fraud in the 4th, Grand Larceny in the 4th, and Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the 1st, all Felonies. McKnight was issued an appearance ticket for her charges and is due in Cortland City Court next month.
