Marathon Woman Charged With Welfare Fraud
A Marathon woman has been arrested and charged with Welfare Fraud and Petit Larceny, both Misdemeanors following an investigation conducted by the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office and the Cortland County Department of Social Services (DSS). Officers with the Sheriff’s Office arrested 49 year old Lisa McKnight of Marathon on Wednesday, June 18th.
The Sheriff’s Office says between February 1st of this year through March 31st, McKnight had failed to provide required income information to DSS. As a result of failing to provide the information, she received benefits she was not entitled to in excess of $584. Officers obtained a warrant for her arrest as a result.
McKnight was transported to the Sheriff’s Office for processing and later released. She is due in Cortland City Court next month.
