Marathon Man Arrested For DWI After Domestic Dispute – Found Stuck in Brush After Fleeing into Wooded Area

New York State Troopers responded to a domestic dispute at a residence on Route 11 in Virgil after a call came into Cortland County 9-1-1 Dispatch. State Police say the person involved in the dispute, 39 year old Johnathon M. Irwin of Marathon was driving while intoxicated and had fled to a wooded area nearby.

Troopers were able to locate Irwin in the wooded area and found him stuck in brush within the wooded area and needed assistance out of it. Troopers assisted in freeing Irwin from the brush and then had him checked out by the Marathon Volunteer Ambulance Corps (MAVAC). He was later transported to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center for further evaluation.

While State Police were assisting Irwin out, they detected an odor of alcohol coming from his breath. He was asked to perform a Standardized Field Sobriety Test, which confirmed his impairment. Irwin was arrested and charged with DWI (with a previous conviction within 10 years), a Felony.

Irwin was issued appearance tickets for Virgil Town Court later this month.
