Marathon Man Arrested After Making Verbal Threats Over Phone


Around 11:30 in the morning on Tuesday, November 7th, officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported harassment complaint that occurred over the phone in the Village of Marathon.

An investigation found the suspect, 49 year old Stephen G. Winston of Marathon, had contacted the victim via phone and then threatened to physically harm them. Officers located Winston at his residence just a short time later and arrested and charged him with Aggravated Harassment in the 2nd, a Misdemeanor.

He was taken to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office where he was processed and released with an appearance ticket. Winston is due to appear in Marathon Town Court next month.
