Two area high school teams took home section titles in Class D boys basketball on Saturday (March 7).
The top-seed Marathon Olympians repeated as Section IV champions, with a 51-45 win at SUNY Oneonta over #2 South Kortright, led by Andrew Tillotson’s 16 points.
Diego Castellot put up 10 of his own, with Kenyon DePuy scoring nine and both Connor Holland and Owen Hoyt scoring eight points.
Meanwhile, the Deruyter Rockets claimed their first Section III title in 25 years, capping a perfect 23-0 season with a 63-54 win at OCC over defending champion Lyme.
Tristan Worlock scored six of his team high 16 points in a big 3rd quarter that would end up being decisive in the result of the game. Galvin Richardson had 15 points in the game, with Benjamin Barnes and Frank Glisson scoring 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Deruyter will return to OCC for game this Saturday (March 14) against the Section X champion Chateaugay, in a Class D regional tipping off around Noon.
Marathon will play their sub-regional tomorrow night (March 10) at Windsor High School against Children’s Village, with that game set to begin at 6:30 pm.
