Around 9:30 on Monday night, Ithaca Police responded to Wegmans in the City of Ithaca of a report of a man in the parking lot in possession of a firearm.
The complaint to Ithaca Police said the man was waving the firearm around in the air. Officers immediately canvassed the area of the Wegmans parking lot and surrounding areas looking for the suspect with the reported weapon.
A person matched the description given to officers, but after a field interview with them, it was determined they were not the suspect police were looking for. Officers could not find the suspect during the continuation of their search. IPD has now opened an investigation towards the incident.
Ithaca Police are asking any witnesses to the incident or who may have information regarding the man with a gun in the area of Wegmans to contact the Ithaca Police Department at 607-330-0000.
