Man Rams Truck Into Sheriff Deputies Vehicle in Town of Ithaca

Just before 7:45 pm on Thursday. April 18th, deputies from the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported trespass on Five Mile Drive within the Town of Ithaca. Responding deputies learned the person on scene had an order of protection against the person trespassing.

As deputies were arriving, they found a Ford F150 pickup truck running in a parking lot. As they pulled their vehicles behind the truck to prevent the suspect from fleeing, deputies then got out and began to walk up to the truck when they saw the brake lights activate.

Deputies returned to their vehicles and the pickup truck began to rev its engine and accelerated in reverse slamming into a marked Sheriff’s Office vehicle. The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office says the truck managed to back up all the way onto the hoot and nearly into the windshield of the patrol vehicle. Deputies were able to back up to have the pickup truck slid off the hood.

Afterwards, the suspect got out of the truck and began to make threats to the deputies. The situation was successfully deescalated and the driver of the pickup truck was arrested.

The Sheriff’s Office has identified the pickup truck driver as 26 year old Gregory D. Edwards of Van Etten. He faces charges of Criminal Mischief in the 3rd, a Felony, Reckless Endangerment in the 2nd, and Criminal Trespass in the 2nd, both Misdemeanors.

Edwards was taken to Tompkins County Jail after he was processed.
