Man Burglarizing Home Caught By Cortland Sheriff Deputies

Cortland County Sheriff Deputies report they caught a man for a burglary in progress in Cortlandville.

Police say that on Wednesday, July 18th at 12:40am, they responded to a home on Delaware Ave. in the Town of Cortlandville for a reported burglary in progress. When officers arrived, they discovered a man alone inside of the unoccupied home.

At the home police took Andrew Phillips, age 23 of Cortland into custody without incident, according to a press release.

An investigation found Phillips, who is familiar with the homeowner, had forcibly entered the home without permission and while in the home broke some items.

He was arrested and charged with felony burglary, criminal mischief, and criminal possession of a hypodermic needle.

He was processed and then arraigned in the Town of Cortlandville Court and sent to the Cortland County Jail on $2000 cash, $6000 bond.

He was due back in court yesterday.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges are possible.
