A man was arrested in Cortland last week for a 2015 incident where he’s accused of strangling and raping a 36-year-old woman at a Rickard Street residence.
Cortland Police on Thursday (October 10) arrested 35-year-old Christopher Gillette, listed as homeless, just one day after he returned to the city from an unrelated prison sentence.
Detective Lt. Michael Strangeway said new evidence has been uncovered that led investigators to his most recent arrest.
Gillette’s been charged with two felonies related to the 2015 crime and was remanded to the Cortland County Jail without bail.
He’s scheduled to appear in city court on Wednesday afternoon (October 16).
