Matt Brooks: [00:00:00] Good morning. I’m Matt Brooks on X101
Always Classic in for another edition of the Cancer Prevention Segment
with the CSP Program of Cayuga, Cortland and Tompkins Counties.
With me in the studio, Courtney Maxson and Senior Public Health
Educator from the Cortland County Health Department. Courtney, I
haven’t seen you since last year.
Courtney Maxson: I know. It’s great to see you this year.
Matt Brooks: I know it’s 2026. It’s hard to believe that 2025, the books
are finally closed, but it’s New Year’s resolution time and Courtney. All
right. There’s some New Year’s resolutions that we try, we fail, but the
ones that we really should make and follow through on, tell me some.
Courtney Maxson: Cancer screening is important. Those, preventative
health screenings, going to your doctor for your annual physical,
especially if you haven’t been in like 10 years for the annual physical.
Matt Brooks: Hey, I can, I can check box. I went to the doctor last
month, so
Courtney Maxson: I’m so proud.
Matt Brooks: It, it, it took just what about a year of you telling me?
Courtney Maxson: Yes-
Matt Brooks: But that’s pretty fast when you con considering me.
Courtney Maxson: Absolutely. The things I’m [00:01:00] saying are
sinking in.
Matt Brooks: Yeah. And it’s, it’s real easy and if you need help, you can
always contact Courtney to get help. Getting those screenings and
kicking off the year, there is an important, awareness month, a very
particular cancer that you can get screened for. And that is Cervical
Cancer. It’s Cervical Cancer Awareness Month.
Courtney Maxson: Yes, cervical cancer is easy to be, tested for,
women. and anyone with a cervix can go to the doctor and have a pap
and pelvic exam done. And that is a quick and easy test to see if there’s
any abnormalities or any abnormal changes on the cervix

Matt Brooks: And for these, it is something that you can get regularly,
which is great.
It’s not something that you have to go out of your way for if you’re
already visiting the doctor. But of course, if something feels off, go
immediately.
Courtney Maxson: Absolutely. you know your body better than anybody
else if something feels off. Go, go get it checked out.
Matt Brooks: Now we’re talking about, January, New Year’s Resolution,
Cervical Cancer Awareness month.
If people are ready to [00:02:00] turn that new leave and put health as a
priority in 2026, but need a little help, Courtney, where, where do they
find you?
Courtney Maxson: They can contact me at, the Cortland County Health
Department at 607-758-5523 Or check us out
on, CortlandCountyNY.gov. Cortland County Health Department.
Matt Brooks: Sounds like a plan. I gotta, I gotta thank you again. It’s a
new year. It’s glad to start it off with a Cancer Prevention Segment with
you, Courtney.
Courtney Maxson: Thanks so much.
Matt Brooks: It is X101 Always classic. I’m Matt Brooks.
